The Moon

The Moon holds great importance for Wiccans. First of all, it is a symbol of the Goddess, but we are also acutely aware of the effects the moon has on Nature, and on ourselves. Many Wiccans perform spells and rituals according to the current phase of the moon.

The Full Moon - is a time to do spells that greatly increase, such as healing spells. It is also a powerful time for spells to increase psychic vision, magickal powers, prophetic dreams, and to do fertility rituals.

The Waning Moon - (the period of time when the moon wanes from Full to New) - is a time for doing reducing or banishing spells. This is a good time to perform spells to quit smoking, lose weight, and end negative relationships.

The New Moon (or Dark Moon) - is the most powerful night for banishing spells, and spells that greatly decrease. It is a perfect time for removing negative qualities in yourself and your life, such as fear, negativity, procrastination, and bad habits.

The Waxing Moon - (the period of time when the moon waxes from New to Full) - is for spells and rituals that increase, such as healing spells, spells to increase strength and power, and prosperity spells.

Some Wiccans are steadfast in their devotion to the moon phases, while others feel that it doesn't make much difference in their spells. I usually perform spells and rituals in accordance with the moon phases, but not always. It's all a matter of personal choice.
